TIPS FOR A BETTER MAGAZINE

For the best monthly magazine you need to follow these simple guidelines.

1. Do not use Elmer’s glue and Scotch tape when pasting paper down. Use Rubber cement or glue sticks.
2. Photographs need to be prepared especially for reproduction. There is a $5.00 charge for this service but it is well worth the cost as unprepared photos usually do not reproduce well. It generally takes two extra days to prepare the photos, so please submit early.
3. Use flat envelopes (do not fold). Enclosed are Return mail labels to insure delivery to MHPM.
4. Do not use color photographs and illustrations. These do not reproduce as well as black and white.
5. Clear, dark, typewritten copy reproduces best. Do not use Erasable bond paper. Use white correction fluid if needed.
6. Do not use colored paper. The lighter colored the background, the better the copy.
7. Please use just one side of the page.
8. It is best to have an introductory page in your editorial. It is the “first” page of the book, and should be numbered “page 1”. Phone numbers and park information are usually included on this page. We can help you with this if you need some guidance.
9. We strongly suggest that you number your pages to expedite the printing of your magazine. The best place to number is the center of the page; either at the top or the bottom. If you do not number them, they will be numbered at our office.
10. Please do not use staples to hold your editorial. A paper clip is better.
11. Please use The Editorial Record Sheet enclosed to control your editorial. Attach one copy to your editorial when you mail it and keep one copy for your records.
12. Dot matrix printers are difficult to reproduce so make sure you have a new ribbon and the copy is clear. Also graphite pencils do not reproduce very well. Black ink works the best, please don’t use blue ink!
13. Deadlines are the 10th & 15th of the month depending on the location of your park. If you have trouble meeting your deadline please let us know and we will work with you. If you cannot meet your deadline, we cannot guarantee that you magazine will be delivered by the first of the month, but we will do our best.
14. Ink jet printer photos do not reproduce well. Send us the original photos and we will process at $5 per page charge or use a laser printer.
